The 2021 Five Rivers District Fall Camporee — Highland Games — brought Scouts BSA troops to Camp Maubila to compete in classic Scottish games with a Scouting twist: the caber toss, Braemar stone putt, sheaf toss, tossing the haggis and the wellie, tomahawk and battle-hammer throws, a log drag, a farmer’s-walk relay, ring jousting, and storming the castle on a ladder lashed by the Scouts.
Units camped and were judged together all weekend, but on Saturday every Scout was mixed into a new clan of about eight, which made its own name, flag and yell before taking to the game field. The campfire and awards moved into the dining hall when the weather turned.
What a unit leader needed to plan the weekend.
The whole planning document behind the weekend — story, stations, schedule and scoring — with every Scout’s and family’s name, email and phone number taken out.
